A Visual Diary™: Big Bear

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

I’ve been back from the Big Bear trip for just over a week. In the last 7 days, i’ve almost fully recovered from the trip (but for some reason my back is all sorts of jacked up), nearly caught up with my design work, worked on our new house, searched for songs for our new Team Shootout edit, and mowed my new lawn. Busy is somewhat of an understatement. So rather than bore you with a long winded written recap of the 2 weeks i was in SoCal, i’m going to share with you a bunch of photos I shot while out there. A Visual Diary™ of sorts. Enjoy

Within hours of landing, on my way up to Big Bear, I needed a fix of some good Mexican food. You can never go wrong with the sketchiest looking road-side joint. Taco Tia hooked up 3 carne asada tacos. Real, real good.

Big Bear is a real nice change from the resorts out East. While you cant mess with Stowe on a powder day, this place is unmatched when it comes to fun-ass park riding. This photo shows one of the 1,000,000 options on the hill

Laurent setting up a new Artifact Rocker with United bindings, with Will cheering him on. I think.

Eiki is fully prepared for anything the bright SoCal sun wants to throw his way

Shootout crew, L to R: Marie 'Broken Ribs' Hucal, Ellen Pee, Johnny 'Tank' Paxson, Willie Glowsticks. I think Eiki was somewhere working on his tan

2 dudes, 1 boat? I really have no explanation for this one

Not a technical piece of outerwear for miles. Keeping it street. In the mountains

I saw my fair share of sunrises over Big Bear Lake, preparing for the days shots

Pretty much self explanatory

Serfas and Cavan getting the shot, teamwork style

Laurent showing off his 2010/2011 style...relaxed

MMA fighter Ellen Pee came by the house. Will is one of his biggest fans

Runke, letting his actions speak for him on the last day of the shoot

Full crew dinner/party time at Desi's in the Village. Clayton, Dan, Greg and the rest of the park crew guys joined us to celebrate another successful Team Shootout.

EPIC

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Sorry for the lack of activity on here, I think everyone is a little burnt out from our time in Bear, but I promise you everyone will be alive and kicking on here asap, the team as well as myself are just a little tired from team shoot out, the product shoot and then traveling again.

I found this gem on Thrasher’s site today. I remember when this movie came out it was all time, They really worked their ass’ off making this team movie and of course the ending was epic. I believe it was originally edited to “Under Pressure” but Mouse got sued over it so he had to change it, still really sick and worth the watch.

Two Quick Ones

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

We are currently packing up our house in Big Bear, our shoots have all gone really well, but it’s time to head back to our respected corners of the world and enjoy a little relaxation and rest before we hit the road again. Here’s two things to check out:

Our favorite female pro snowboarder and good friend Marie-France Roy recently was injured in the Whistler backcountry. I hit her up the other day on skype to get her story. Read what she had to say here: MFR INJURY UPDATE

Our friend Kevin Sansalone and the Sandbox crew just posted the second teaser for their new movie, it’s really sick!

Big In Europe

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Happy 420 Bro……….ahhhh I kid, I kid.

I was just going through some photos on my computer in between listening to the ridiculous stories of Larry, Paxson, and Eiki’s blog filmer Johannes (seriously I love Eiki and Haldor’s blog and their filmer is just as weird and crazy as you would guess he is) I found some gems from our Europe trip earlier this year with Lucas, Bjorn and Will and it got me remembering how sick the terrain is over there. For anyone that hasn’t been, it’s a must shred place at some point in your life. The mountains are so big and the amount of crazy terrain that is accessible right off the lift is mind blowing. It got me looking back through some of the shots we got while we were over there filming and in celebration of 420 or the fact that Johannes finally left our Big Bear house (I’m kidding Johannes) and it’s quiet again, I threw this little piece together of the guys hiking and checking out the terrain. Hope you enjoy.

Paxson in Japan

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

About a month back we kicked off the new movie The Shred Remains with a trip to Japan. I have been lucky enough to got to travel over there about 5 times now and every time still blows my mind. This trip all 4 riders where rookies to the country so to say that they where on sensory overload is an understatement. I got a quick list from Paxson on his favorite things about his trip.

  1. The Craziest candy in the world.
  2. Food- So much delicious and interesting stuff
  3. The Culture- the place is very different than anything I have ever seen
  4. Snow- So much snow, it took hours to shovel out anything
  5. Urban Features- The place is endless, I could film a full part in one city
  6. Communication – Pretty much shit out of luck with out a translator
  7. The People – I have never been a place where people where so hyped on snowboarding and how much respect they showed me
  8. Mini Cars – Lets be honest things are smaller in Japan, I think we rented the only 8 passenger van in all of Sapporo
  9. Architecture – Enough said
  10. Experience – Not really sure this is specific to just Japan but anytime you get to travel it’s the experience as a whole that I look forward to.

Couple Runs At Bear

Johnnie, Laurent and Will took a few cruisers around Bear today while working with the Bear crew on some secret stuff, it was super fun. They are all deep in their Twitter interview right now
