My name is Zach Clanton and I am snowboarder, freelance photographer, climber and aspiring bush pilot based out of Alaska. I learned to snowboard at age 8 in Colorado but just as I really got into it, my family moved to Georgia where my sideways time was then spent on a skateboard and on manmade snow in the Carolinas. Committed to moving back out west at 18, I moved to Utah where I spent all my time building kickers in the Wasatch and hitting handrails in SLC before cutting a Rome Design in two to see more of the range.
One big splitboard line led to another until I felt that I possessed the skills necessary to step to the Mecca of big mountain riding. I trained up in the coastal snowpack and glaciers of the North Cascades, saved my pennies, and I was on my way. During a seven-month road trip to visit Alaska for the first time, I saw what was possible when I combined my love for aviation with my big mountain dreams and decided to stay for good! Six years later, I’m still living nomadically in my tent or truck amongst the wilds of the Far North, always on the hunt for new zones. Visit zclantonphoto.smugmug.com to see what I have been up to!
