Ross Patton
Where are you from, where you at?I was born in Salt Lake City, but I live in South Lake Tahoe, California.
How long have you been riding?11 years.
What’s your set up?Regular, 23 inches wide, +15, and -15 on the angles. I usually de-tune about 6 inches of edge on the nose and tail but I pretty much leave the rest of the edge factory tuned. It can be a little sketchy on rails but I love the sharp edges for jumping.
Do you customize your gear in anyway?I once put Targa high backs and straps on 390 heel loops. I called them Three Gnargas.
Most memorable new trick you landed for the first time?Switch BS rodeo 5. It didn’t make any sense in my head but when I tried it, it just worked.
Any pre-shred “go to” meal?I like to go to sushi the night before a backcountry mission if I can afford it. As far as mornings, I would say Brothers Burrito breakfast burritos can’t be beat. Chips, salsa, burrito, and a coffee for $3.70 is a pretty good deal.
How would you describe your style?Kirkwood style because that’s where I learned how to ride. I just try to ride anything in front of me.
Any snowboard superstitions you believe in?I always have some sort of lucky gear. Last year I had some lucky mitts that smelled so bad I’m pretty sure one of my friends threw them away.
Snow porn or real porn?Either way it’s never as good as the real thing…
All expense paid vacation anywhere, where would you go?I really want to go to Chile. I heard there are awesome handrails and really good backcountry spots everywhere.
Best and worst thing about snowboarding right now?Best: It’s so exciting to me to see where snowboarding is headed. Some kids hate on triple corks, some kids hate on urban and minishred. I say embrace it all because it’s all snowboarding and snowboarding is f*cking awesome. Worst: Getting injured. When you get injured in the middle of the season it’s like you have the black plague or something, no one wants to hang out with “injured guy”.
Where do you plan on spending next season?I’m gonna to spend the majority of my time in Tahoe but I’m definitely gonna get out to Salt Lake City for a bit.
Any shout outs?Big thanks to John Graham and Joel Cline for getting me on Rome and supporting me for years. Also, my Mom, Dad, and my brother Jackson. I want to thank Baddell, P-Dogg, Benny G, and Mike D for teaching me the ways of the shred. Last but not least, big shout out to my posse and best friends, The Bird Flu Crew.
