Satellite Boardshop Profile

Give us a quick run-down of your shop and its history.

Owners Raul Pinto and JG Mazzotta, with the help of friends and family, got the shop up and running at its current location back in 2002. There was a need for a good local skate and snowboard shop after the legendary Brother's Boards closed its doors a couple years prior. The skate and snowboard scene in Boulder is booming and the rest is infinity.

What is it about your shop that keeps the local shreds coming back to get all their gear?

We are really honest about what we think of all the new technology and features. Some of the employees participate in some of the industry's most legitimate product tests. We also have a really good selection of core brands and lines that are hard to find or extremely limited. Also, everyone is easy on the eyes and has soothing voices.

Any up and coming shop riders to keep an eye on?

Gromzilla is our new crew: Cody, Andrew, and Isaiah… they form like Voltron!

What’s your local spot for lunch/dinner how about your evening hangout zone.

For lunch we usually eat potato burritos from Big City Burritos near the shop. $0.99 Gomez Burritos in Denver has been a new favorite for evening skate sessions at the Denver Skatepark. If we're not eating, skating or playing soccer, the Shag Lounge in Denver or the Sundown Saloon in Boulder are fairly common chill zones.

Do you have any yearly event at the shop that you look forward to?

We have a couple big events every year. In the fall we have the Reunion Sale, which kicks off the snowboard season up near the University of Colorado campus, with some super good deals, big video premiers and after parties. Also, every 4th of July is the shop's Anniversary (7 years now). We usually have a big BBQ, float the creek, and skate all day.

“Will you guys sponsor me?” “Do you have any free stickers?” which one do you hear most often?

Free stickers of course, but our favorite one is, "Thanks for giving me all that info. My friend is sponsored by them and he is going to get me a deal on it."

What’s the piece of Rome gear you guys get asked about most often?

Everyone's looking for them Live Nude Girls... duh!

What’s the closest shred spot to the shop? What’s your local shred scene like?

Winter Park has been home base for a while now. There are other mountains, but WP is a little off the beaten path and has some awesome stuff to explore. A lot of the team riders live up in Summit County as well, so we go pretty much everywhere.

Describe your local’s run, hot lap or secret pow stash.

Danger Ditch: no one's ever seen it, but give us a call later this season for an update.

What’s the best story of a customer trying to return something or ask for their money back?

This lady bought a shirt wore it washed it and tried to return it cause it had a frayed hem, (that was designed to fray). She said it was defective and proceeded to scream at me with multiple customers laughing at her… it was hard to keep a straight face.

What’s the shop’s all-time most played shred flick? What makes it the best flick for repeated viewing?

We have two TV's with two different videos playing. Burning Bridges and Cold World work well together. It's kind of like watching "The Wizard of OZ" and playing Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon," together.

Any celebrity or pseudo-celebrity sightings ever happen in the shop?

Kevin Costner, Dave Chapel, The Ozzbournes, Gary Busey, MFM, Wastel, Coulter…all the real shred heads stop in when they are in town… we’re tight!
