Tactics Profile

Tell us a little bit about your shop and its history in the shred scene.

Tactics is a skate, snow and surf shop, locally owned and operated in Eugene, Oregon. The wheels have been turning since 1999, starting as an online retailer in the fall out of the internet business bubble bursting. Our physical shop acts as a hub for the local shred scene, and we strive to stay involved in smaller events and be there for the little guy.

What makes your shop different then all the others?

We make a pure effort to be welcoming to every person who walks in the door. Service is our top priority; we want our clientele to leave stoked and look forward to returning.

Do you have the “couch vibe” or is it more about the product? What is the vibe in general?

I would call it “standing couch vibe”. We can have people standing and talking about snowboards with us for 2+ hours. We have TVs and all the lounge furniture necessary, but kids and adults alike are more likely to want to investigate the shop. It goes without saying, but we all love to geek out with customers on boarding in general.

Does your shop carry skate and surf or is it all snow? Briefly describe what we can find on the shelves.

We carry all three. Anything you need to make it a day at the mountain/park/break, we have. Eugene is nice in that the ocean and mountains are an hour away in opposite directions, and we currently have 8ish skate parks in the area and a respectable hand full of spots in town.

What are three things it takes to work in the store?

  1. Good attitude.
  2. Willing to work hard and take ownership of your labor.
  3. Have a strong passion for at least one of the 3 board riding disciplines.

If it’s a hammering snow day and some of the best pow ever, what do you do to keep employees in the store?

Text them in the morning and tell them the pass is closed.

Describe your crew that works there.

A far-flung crew of locals and a few out-of-staters that almost all universally love to snowboard, many who skate, and some who surf.

What is the most played shred flick in the history of the shop and why?

The Search For Animal Chin. I am supremely sad that there is a generation unfamiliar with that movie.

Who are some riders on the come-up that visit your shop... a rider people should look out for?

Our snow team rider Jodie has been working harder than anyone else I know that rides. We also have our snow team rider Jordan and the Alphabits crew. Those guys always make me want to go ride after watching their stuff.

Where is the shop local hang out? The best place to grab a drink after hours, or chill with some friends?

The Jackalope, on 5th and Willamette in front of the train station. Great bar food and drinks, a regular after-work fixture.

If the Rome crew came through would you be cautious to let them in or does the reputation surpass them?

We have nothing to hide! Come on by.
