Red Sky Surf & Snow Profile
Give us a quick run-down of your shop and its history.
We started out in September 2002 in the back of a record store, Boogie Records. The idea was a simple one, snowboarders selling snowboards, you know, right or wrong, the stuff that we dug, rode and believed in. We wanted to keep our line up pure with only snowboard companies, very Rome-ish in that belief. We resided there for 2 years growing stronger every day, waiting for our chance to brake out on our own which we finally did. We have been at our present location going on 4 years now. It’s a pretty cool layout with 2 floors, downstairs- clothing, upstairs- boards, boots & bindings. It’s quite a change from our humble beginnings in the back of Boogie. Much love to Pat O’Connor & the Boogie crew for giving us a chance!

What is it about your shop that keeps the local shreds coming back to get all their gear?
I think it’s that we all actually ride and we don’t BS you. We go and try to ride EVERY board that we’ll carry, that way we can give you honest, straight up advice. We also do a lot of giveaways with our riders reward card; they get hoodies, tees, hats & lift tickets depending on what they buy. Much love to our local riders who have been down with us from the jump. Could not do it with out them.
Describe your local shop crew; Do you often have people hanging out at the shop?
People are hanging out all the time. It’s a diverse group; a lot of our team riders will come in and check out new vids & hang for hours.
What is it about your shop that sets it apart?
We ARE a snowboard shop, with real riders!!!! We don’t sell skis, bikes or sleds. We unfortunately are a dying breed. We also have one of our shop guys that is an artist do murals on the walls, they’re pretty dope, especially the “Destroy all skiers” one.
Crazy customers make for good stories, got any really good ones from the past season?
We had a kid that kept coming in that we called “Street Fighter”, it (We couldn’t tell if it was a guy or girl) would come in and slowly start erupting into crazy. It would challenge customers to fights, start swinging & kicking at them, yelling until I would make it leave. Other times it would come in with a fake mic and start screaming death metal songs at the top of its lungs. The best line Street Fighter said was “my mom pees on the floor in front of me and makes me clean it up, one day I’m going to skin her & boil her”. Sure, what ever….
Any up and coming shop riders to keep an eye on?
One of our guys, Zach Johnston, has been making a go of it out west and Logan Plath just got back from High Cascade so we’re expecting great things from him!
Do you remember buying your first kit? How do your early snowboard purchasing experiences affect how you sell snowboards?
Yep, Kemper Screamer 167, it sucked, what a plank! It effects me every time I sell because I don’t want some kid ending up making the same crappy choice I did!
What was your all time favorite snowboard graphic?
Rome- the shocker Artifact, it was just so wrong to so many people! Non Rome- Sims Shaun Palmer Disco Pimp
What’s the piece of Rome gear you guys get asked about most often?
The Artifacts, they just kill it.
What’s the worst thing or strangest thing you’ve ever seen brought in for a repair or tune up as far as snowboard equipment goes?
I always enjoy the cashed out old ass delamed snowboard with no edges or base left that someone got from there buddy for $300.
Is there a particular event or occasion that really kicks the season off in your area?
Rome Pre Jib!!!!!!! Our work crew can’t wait!
What’s the shop’s all-time most played shred flick?
What makes it the best flick for repeated viewing? We roll “Any Means” hard all the time, that and “Dialed” a flick from some of our shop guys.
