Tell us a little bit about your shop and its history in the shred scene.
Ambush Board Co. opened in the summer of 1997. We started out as a skate shop/underground punk rock record store, but we all loved to snowboard. So when winter rolled around, we decided to get into the snow game. It’s still the most fun to sell snowboards in the store.
What makes your shop different then all the others?
In our (red) neck of the Deep South, we don’t have a lot of serious snowboard shops. They are all family ski stores that convert over to patio furniture in the summer. We at Ambush live and breathe snowboarding and it shows in our service, selection, back shop, and vibe. If you want an honest answer from a true snowboarder, we are your shop.
Do you have the “couch vibe” or is it more about the product? What is the vibe in general?
Both… We have two big, red leather couches in the snowboard section for you to try on boots, watch videos, make out on, etc. But, we take our snow selection pretty seriously. We stock a ton of snowboards, boots, bindings, outerwear, gloves, goggle, board bags, and accessories. We want you to hang out and be a part of the Ambush family as well as be able to service all of your gear needs.
Does your shop carry skate and surf or is it all snow? Briefly describe what we can find on the shelves
Our roots are in skate. We are definitely a skate shop first. Over half of our square footage and most of our events are skate-centric. But, we are just as passionate about snowboarding. We also sell wakeboards, apparel, shoes, headphones/Go Pro cameras. We have everything for your lifestyle.
What are three things it takes to work in the store?
- A brain
- A great personality/vibe
- You must skate, snowboard, or wakeboard
Describe your crew that works there.
Everyone that works here must be a nice guy that can hold a conversation with anyone. Aside from that, we are all a bunch of easy-going skate rats that love to snowboard (and party).
What is the most played shred flick in the history of the shop and why?
The Art of Flight…Why? Have you seen the video?
Where is the shop local hang out? The best place to grab a drink after hours, or chill with some friends?
The Graveyard, Only You Tattoo, or just shredding the streets.
If the Rome crew came through would you be cautious to let them in or does the reputation surpass them?
I think they would be cautious of us. We play host to the gnarliest teams (Deathwish, Baker, Anti-Hero, S.E.C.). We can handle it.
