During the warmer months, pretty much every day there is someone in the office who says something along the lines of, “damn, I wish we could go snowboarding right now.” So when Stowe announced they’d be doing a season pass holder appreciation day this early in the season – we were pretty hyped.
We decided on Friday that we’d make the annual journey to pick up our passes. It’s always a good time because the fact that the season has finally arrived really starts to sink in. It’s time to get stoked that you’ll be setting your alarm earlier, gathering the crew, and taking burner laps on our favorite stock run.
The next day everyone met up at the chairlift around 8:30 so we could be there as the lift started spinning at 9. Much to our surprise, they started loading up immediately – a full half hour earlier than we anticipated. After a short time the clouds burnt off and the sun came out in full force, which turned into a perfect bluebird day. What followed was an absolute blur of high fives, dangerous levels of speed, side hits, and a shitload of fun. It was pretty damn awesome to be back at our home mountain.
Eventually it became time to call two more runs, skip the last, and make moves to one of our favorite spots for apres, Piecasso, for a couple slices and beers.
All in all, it was one of the best opening days in my memory. The conditions were awesome, especially considering it was only the 10th of November. This marks my 7th season riding at Stowe and I couldn’t be more stoked to get out and ride again. We’ll see everyone up there tomorrow for the official opening day.
