Shop Guy of the Week: Mark Saunders

This week’s shop guy of the week has been down since day one. How many people do you know have ridden an Anthem before you could buy one? Get some insight from Mark Saunders repping East of Maui Boardshop in Annapolis, MD.

Ok, basics first. What’s your name and where’s your shop?

Mark Saunders, East of Maui Boardshop in Annapolis, Maryland.

What’s your home mountain?

Liberty Mountain PA

How long have you been working in the shop?

19 years have flown by.

How’d you get the job?

I followed my older brother’s footsteps. Sailing, windsurfing, surfing, snowboarding and working in the shop.   It was only a matter of time before they wanted me in the shop… Got the job as a young-buck, now I’ve been a shop owner for the past 9 years!

What makes your shop stand out?

Our whole story!  A few big things about our shop are…the diversity in business, product, industry knowledge, and we are really out there living it! We’ve been named by more than one industry rep as the “Biggest little shop in the World”!

What’s the craziest thing a customer’s asked for?

Pontoon boats. Weird.

Favorite Rome product and why?

Anthem hands down.  It’s the description of my style.  It has been the board I can’t get enough of ever since the prototype my business partner and I got to ride before  Rome was on the market!

What’s your spirit animal?

Apparently a wolverine!

Tell us a joke?

Jokes are for the weak.

Any local riders that you or the shop in general are especially stoked on?

I’ll say all of us at the shop.  But we’ll leave all the scouting to Rome!

You’re stuck on a chairlift for 8 hours, who are the 3 people you’d like to be stuck with?

Jeremy Jones (big mountain), Craig Kelly, my brother.

Best pick up line?

You look like a bug.

If you could do only one trick the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pow lines or park laps?

Pow Lines!

Favorite shred flick from last season?

Art of Flight.

What one thing would you change about snowboarding to make it better?

Destroy the internet!

Describe the perfect day of riding.

Blasting POW with friends, from first chair to last chair, it’s that simple!

Any shout outs?

Shout out to Rome Snowboarding!  We’ve been supporting Rome since day 1!

Any last words?
