Marius Otterstad

Marius Otterstad is a machine. He rides fast and hard, and he’s not afraid to take a beating while doing it. Originally known as a park and tranny guy, Marius has quickly made the switch into full on backcountry ruler. Down to do whatever it takes to get to the snow Marius spend countless hours flying and driving each year chasing some of the best snow on earth. He’s not afraid of going huge (even with a broken foot) and is definitely one to watch over the next few years as he’ll no doubt be pushing the freestyle backcountry progression. Just don’t let him near a drum kit

Words to Live By:

Smile at life and life smiles right back at you.

“Any Means” tell us your experience:

I was stoked when I got the news that Rome was going to make the first team movie. I knew they would put all their effort into making it the best and most outstanding snowboard movie in years. And still have that Rome feeling to it. A movie that will make you want to go out and shred your fun stick. I knew it was going to be a hell lot of fun filming for it, and it was!

Best Memory of the Year:

The good BBQ hang out by the campfire while filming the intro in Montana. Good times!

Rome House, tell us the ins and outs:

The Rome house had one of the best hangs I have ever experienced. It was really laid back and everyone was invited to feel it. There was always something going on. Either it would be someone jibbing the roof or a band playing in the living room. Rome definitely knows how to throw a party!

What does the Collective Addiction mean to you:

For me Collective Addiction means hitting up the slopes, backcountry, city or indoor dome with your shred stick and having fun with it your way!

Best Hang (trip of the year):

The one I’m on right now. After battling a broken ankle all year, snowboarding trips were not too pleasant. It took a lot of sweat, tears and pain to fight through this season. Not saying I didn’t have any fun this year. My ankle was just a huge downer on all the joy in the backcountry. So now when it’s all done, I am pretty stoked to be chilling here in Cabo, Mexico. Warm weather, good waves and large, wide, cool Margaritas. Cheers!

You have the opportunity to be a hit on anyone of the hit reality TV shows, which one would you choose:

Reality TV shows are lame. I don’t watch that crap anymore. But if you would ask for a hit TV show it would definitely be Entourage. Looks like a hell of a lot of fun being one of the main characters in that show.

Tell us something personal:

I use Magnum condoms, size large.

Best story of another team rider:

We had a birthday party for me up in Whistler in April and we all went out on the town and hit up some clubs. I had a blast and went home with my girlfriend about half an hour before closing. The next morning I meet Bjorn in the downstairs living room and he looked like shit. I asked him if he had fun last night and he looks at me and goes: “Man, I just got out of jail.” The story was, after closing he had been talking to some of his buddies and he saw some Whistler mountain police walking up the street. As a joke he started running up the street away from them pretending that he was trying to get away from them. What he didn’t know was that the cops had seen him, and “of course” thought that he had something to hide. So therefore they ran after him and slammed him to the ground. And since he had had some drinks that night, they thought they might as well let him spend the night in jail. Ending with the release of him at 7:00AM, telling him the catchy phrase: “I guess you learned your lesson now son: Never run from the Whistler Mountain Police!”

You’re a bartender make a new drink and name it:

Milk glass: 80-20% Champaign (Crystal) and Cognac (Remy Martin). I would call it “High Life.” (But should probably be called “See You Tomorrow”)

Best Meal:

Surf and Turf. Lobster/King crab and Biff stake.

Biggest Influence in your life and why:

My parents and myself. My parents have always been very supportive about whatever I have wanted to do and they have never forced me into doing anything I would not want to do. This has given me the chance to find myself, and the path I wanted to pursue. My dad is a crazy nut case. He showed me in an early age that life is not scary and you have to try to achieve. My mom showed me how to be organized and how to make other people take you seriously. She is the one holding my family together! You can get a lot of influences from other people, but if you are too scared to find yourself, there is no way you will ever have the balls to pursue a style of your own. All people are born as originals, but most people die as copies. Find yourself and you will live a life as an original!
