Opening Day With Marius

Nov 19, 2008 - 09:00 AM

Usually the first day snowboarding feels like the first day learning how to swim. A 3-6 month summer break does that to you. I hate that awkward feeling of strapping in to your bindings the first time after a long summer break. Well, this year was different for me. After hunting down the snow all summer. Travelling to summer camps at Mt. Hood, Southern hemisphere powder riding in New Zealand and Chile. I only ended up having less then a month break, before I strapped into my bindings again for the first day of shredding this season! Man what a good feeling it was! The sad thing though is that I don’t think I will ever take a 3-month surf vacation again as long as I’m a pro snowboarder. That awkward feeling is just not worth it!

I met up with Justin L’Heureux, Sean Black, Will Tuddenham and Pat Fenelon at the parking lot at Brighton, UT in the early morning. Winter was in the air and the conditions looked epic. We got hooked up with tickets by Jared Winkler(marketing director at Brighton), and the shred was on.

I had a list of tricks in my head that I felt I had to go thru on opening day. My list included opening day mandatory method, mandatory powder spray, mandatory backflip and switch BS rode that I had just learned this summer!

The snow was way better then I had expected. Pow turns where slashed backflips where hucked methods where tweaked and smile and laughter was on everyone’s faces during the whole day. It was by far the best opening day I have had so far!

Thanks to Brighton for making this day happen and thanks to my riding crew for making it so much fun!

After riding we went to the local bar and had our mandatory après celebration to end opening day! The day was still young and the night was still ahead. Lets just say best opening day ever. Thanks to Justin L'Heureux for the photos.

Cheers,
Marius
