Shop Guy of the Week: Phil Chadwick
Jan 25, 2012 - 01:44 PM EST

Check out the latest Shop Guy of the Week with Phil Chadwick out of Let it Ride board shop in Spokane, WA.
Ok, basics first. What’s your name and where’s your shop?
Phil Chadwick. I work at Let It Ride board shop in Spokane, WA.
What’s your home mountain?
I actually have two home mountains: Mt. Spokane and Schweitzer. Mt. Spokane is close and fun to night ride, but Schweitzer has way more variety and high speed chairs for lots of laps.
How long have you been working in the shop and how’d you get the job?
I have been at Let it Ride for 4 1/2 months or so. I used to always come in and check it out, so I got to know the owner and would always ask for certain gear. He started to pick up the brands I was asking for, like Rome. Before this, I used to live in Park City, UT and worked in a shop out there. I was then approached in the Fall by the owner of Let it Ride asking if I was interested in a internship type program so I said yes.

What makes your shop stand out?
Our shop stands out because we are involved in the community, listen to the customers, and take the time to explain the tech. Because of all the new gear and tech, not everyone knows exactly what to look for in boards or boots. We also won an award for best board shop in Spokane, which is cool because we’ve only been around for two years.
What’s the craziest thing a customer’s asked for?
To purchase two different size boots. I think it was a joke but the guy was so serious.
Favorite Rome product and why?
Favorite rome product I own is my hemp trucker hat. I guess my 390s and Postermania are pretty dope too! But my favorite that I don’t have is the Blitz backpack or the Whiteroom split, those are on my list for sure.
What’s your spirit animal?
A lion.
Tell us a joke?
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
Any local riders that you or the shop in general are especially stoked on?
There are a few rippers that come in to just support the growth at Let it Ride, so I’m pretty stoked on that. There is this one person that you should check out though, his name is Ward White. He is a ripper and my old roommate from when I lived in Park City. He is someone I have always looked up to not only in life but snowboarding as well. I have a lot of respect for him.

You’re stuck on a chairlift for 8 hours, who are the 3 people you’d like to be stuck with?
Vince Vaughn, Jamie Anderson, and Erin Comstock.
Best pick up line?
How much does a polar bear weigh? Enough to break the ice.
If you could do only one trick the rest of your life, what would it be?
Back rodeo melon grab.

Pow lines or park laps?
Pow.
Favorite shred flick?
Too many favorite videos, but Follow Me Around probably. Best music and variety of riding.
What one thing would you change about snowboarding to make it better?
Cheaper lift tickets.

Describe the perfect day of riding.
Getting to the mountain before opening to stretch out and get gear on. Then pow laps, and it’s snowing so hard you can’t see your previous tracks. Or tent camping at Hood or Bachelor in May. Then after do 100 dollar spring pass hot laps in the park and it’s blue bird with your homies.
Any shout outs?
To my fallen friend Brett Schallock we miss you.
Any last words?
I ride to have fun, that’s why I started to snowboard in the first place.
