PREMATURELY JIBULATING AT BOREAL

Dec 06, 2011 - 05:21 PM EST

Lake Tahoe had received some early storms this season but the cloud seeder turned off early. With only inches of natural snow, mountains had to resort to East coast tactics and start up the guns for some manmade snow.

Thanks to Boreal Mountain Resort being on top of their game the chairs have already been running top to bottom with stacks and stacks of terrain features! The Northern Sierra kids on shred have been logging in dozens of days so far. Although the winds have been clocking in at 100+ mph over the ridges, putting most reports on hold, Boreal has been turning chairs and winning the hearts of the Premature Jibbers.

This Saturday at the 8th annual Rome SDS Premature Jibulation, Rome and Boreal had one of the best turn outs in recent years; the 9:00 AM registration was as busy as an I-5 In-n-Out on a Friday. The line was long but pre-jibbers were amped to shred. As Boreal raked lips and put up our banners, the riders were taking laps during the practice session; If not only to keep warm in the 20 degree air but also to polish their skills for the jam session. After the riders meeting the action began and the hammers started to fall. With so much talent and so many tricks it was proving difficult to even find a top ten early on. It was like watching all the poorly reviewed YoBeat teasers at once. It was a blast!

Trick after trick the action went down for two solid jam format hours! It was impressive. The top of the field was hungry! Everyone was feeding off each other’s stoke and taking each other’s tricks to the next level. It was like seeing a pack of hyenas take down a water buffalo, gnarly but awesome at the same time. Truth be told, we were watching the same contest everyone else was and it was obvious who was going to be on the podium.

As the contest was wrapping up and the riders headed down to the lodge for the award ceremony it was a sad to see such a fun, positive and exciting session come to an end. It was smiles and high fives the entire day. It was just as it was suppose to be, a big group of shreds bringing in the new season with as much stoke as they could. It was what Rome is all about, snowboarding! Thanks to Eric, Lane, Jody and Jon at Boreal / Woodward for the shradical set up. Thanks to momma nature for providing some cold temps and early snow. And thanks to all the riders that came out and had a blast with us this weekend, you rule!
