Session 5 at Windells- Get Some
Aug 03, 2010 - 01:40 PM EDT

The Rome Game of Shred has been running without interruption at Windells Camp on Mount Hood, where campers have been shredding the summer snow up on the glacier. Session 5 just finished up, which is a surprise to both campers and camp staff; summer always seems to go by so quickly.

Johnny Lazz has been riling up the campers with both his on point rail riding and his infectious laugh for the past few sessions. He led Rome Stache’r Night, again one of the most ridiculous evenings on campus, with almost 100 kids participating in the man-hunt-esque game. Soul patches, unibrows, and fu manchus in bright colors covered the faces of campers, no one was safe from the drawing skills of the Windells staff-turned game show hosts. Pretty awesome. Campers were very creative with their hiding spots this past session, crawling and climbing into any place that looked dark enough to evade the assailants that were trying to tag them. But, the taggers are good at what they do and once they had apprehended almost all of the players, the alarm went off for round two to begin. Round two of Stache’r Night is a talent competition, in true game show form, where each camper has 20 seconds to show the best thing they can do to impress the crowd as well as the judges. This week saw some bilingual talents, with an attempt at French-Canadian translation, and the singing of the alphabet in Spanish. It was very educational for everyone involved.

In the end, the judges awarded Zur Handlesman the brand new Rome Artifact, because in order to escape from getting his face covered in fake ‘stache, Zur had become the dirtiest kid at camp, covered in mud and grime from wherever he had been hiding (we don’t really want to know where it was).

Up on the hill, Session 5 is the time of summer when the Windells Diggers rebuild the whole park and the new set-up is hands-down one of the funnest that Windells has had in years. There is a lapable rail line and a perfect 65-foot jump, accessible by a mellow tow rope, that Johnny Lazz, alongside Windells coaches Austin Hironaka and Jonah Owen, have been sessioning for hours each afternoon, providing campers with tons of entertainment/shredding inspiration as they take water breaks at the bottom of the line.

It’s been a session full of good weather and a lot of fun—everyone has been taken by the good vibes of the middle of the summer. Lazz is no exception—he’s a man of many talents and during this session he hopped on a snowskate and wiled out. Check out the photos for the first glimpse at Johnny’s new pastime. If he keeps this up, he may not need to strap in for the rest of the filming of The Shred Remains.

Session 6 is up next and we expect more of the same. Stay tuned for more updates from www.romesnowboards.com . Here are a couple videos worth watching, because you might as well, you just read the whole post.
