Windells Session 1 and 2 Updates
Jul 02, 2010 - 02:38 PM EDT

Rome’s summer Game of Shred has begun, as Windells just wrapped up the first two sessions of the season. Mother Nature wasn’t ready to give up on the chilly weather that easily this year, and Session 1 and 2 bounced back and forth between sunny and snowy, depending on the good lady’s whims; June 16th saw a snowstorm and two days later it was 70 degrees out. It’s been great, though, campers have been jumping on Rome Agent and Artifact Rockers from the Windells Demo Lab, to float through both summer slush and wintery powder.

Energetic summer camp shreds have slid their boots into new pairs of 390 Bosses to compete in the weekly Rome Game of SHRED on the jump line in the Windells private park. Rome rider Johnny Lazz is the emcee for the summer, calling out tricks and keeping all the campers in line with the megaphone, which amplifies his yells all the way down to Government Camp. Lazz, along with regional Rome riders Derrek Lever and Matt Kratzer, have been pushing campers’ bags of tricks by calling out double grabs, switch methods, and switch back threes to narrow down the competitors. In one game, a back rodeo was the winning trick—not bad for summer riding.

Back at camp, Lazz and the rest of the Rome crew at Windells are paying homage to Pat Sajak and Bob Barker with Rome ‘Stacher Night. What is the ‘Stacher Night? Definitely best experienced in person, but if you can’t get out to Hood, imagine this: a handful of camp staff and pros don their best bad seventies suit jackets and game show host mustaches, while all of the campers run and hide around the Windells campus. If a kid is caught by one of the game show hosts, their face is tagged with a ‘stache and the last person without a mustache wins a brand new Rome Artifact Rocker. Session 1, it was Robert Sullivan who made it to the final buzzer without any facial hair and walked away with the giant check. Facial hair abounded that night at camp, with neckbeards, chinstraps and flavor savers in brightly colored Crayola covering everyone’s faces.

Late in Session 2, more of the Rome crew rolled into camp to shoot video for webisodes that will be released during the winter. Rome’s Ron Faverty and John Cavan were joined by LNP, Eiki and Paxson. During the day everyone has been hiking and filming, trying to stay hydrated on the hill (even though Eiki only drinks Coke, no water) and in the evening it’s been beers, bbqs, and the most heated Scrabble tournaments you’ve ever seen. LNP and Cavan have been hitting balls on the golf course behind the house and everyone skated a ton on Windells new concrete park.

Check back next week for the second update of Rome’s summer Game of Shred at Windells Camp—Session 3 is the Rome Team Session, so there will definitely be some all time shredding and skating going down. In the meantime, stay posted to www.romesnowboards.com for updates.
