Premature Jibulation - Bear Mountain

Dec 30, 2009 - 12:14 PM EST

The season started early this year at Bear Mountain Resort. A late October opening was perfect for snowboarders chomping at the bit to get their first runs in, and that extra practice came in handy with riders coming out in force, with over 100 entrants of all ages showing up to throw down at the Big Bear stop of the Premature Jibulation series.

Bear Mountain's parks staff worked all night to get "The Scene" perfectly groomed and ready for the Pre-Jib. Early morning clouds cleared as guest judges and Rome Regional riders Randal Leach, Ian Sams, and Eli Wiener grabbed their pens and got ready for the mayhem to ensue. DJ Mike "Bless" Robles and DJ Episode got things going for the juniors jam, where the 14 and under boys set the stage for the rail jam.

The juniors where killing it with some unexpected heavy tricks, and when all was said and done, Jaromie Nolan was the definitive winner with consistent smooth style and execution. Following the 14 and under jam was the women's turn, and the girls did not disappoint. The women’s jam saw some serious tricks going down with front boards through kinks, and girls spinning in all directions onto nearly every feature. Soon the 30 minutes was up and Miyeoug Kim stood the clear winner with a banger front board through the down-flat-down rail.

With women's and juniors jams complete, it was time for the main event, over 60 guys where amped and ready to show what they had. The groups where split in two, and each group ran for a 30 minute heat, with 10 riders from each heat being picked for the 45 minute final. Following a brief break the finals where underway with hammers being dropped left and right. Consistency, smooth style, and variety where the defining factors for the finals and the riders brought the heat. When the dust settled, the judges had a tough time separating the pack from the winners. After long deliberation it was Keoni Kaimulea who had set himself apart from the pack and claimed first in this years Premature Jibulation.

A big thanks to Bear Mountain and the Park Staff for getting "The Scene" on point and maintaining it all day, as well as all the riders who made it out and made the event a success
