Seven Springs Premature Jibulation – Don’t go Changin’

Dec 21, 2009 - 02:09 PM EST

Seven Springs is a mountain with a great vibe, rad resort-town feel, and a whatever it takes to make it happen parks crew. Having the best pipe in the North East, and getting third in resorts and park in this years Transworld guide gives them a reputation to live up to. When there was only a little bit of snow to work with, harvesting the white stuff from all possible surrounding areas to put together one of the best Premature Jibulation set-ups of the year, was less of a big deal, and more of a “yeah, of course we made it happen….” issue.

Really, you couldn’t as for much more in an early season contest. 140 signed up riders slaying it, sunny skies, warmer weather, 2 full jib lines with a great A style wallride/ hipper/ double barrel to play on, hot dogs cooking, DJ spinning, and even Rome contest alum AJ Lawson there for some announcing, aka, harassing his friends in a more public forum.

It almost goes without saying that the riding was pretty damn impressive. With such a strong local crew, and a top notch park, people are going to get good, that’s just the way it is. After a couple free for all hour long jam format heats, the finals were whittled down to about 20 riders. There were also some wild card contenders, (check the YouTube clip about 17-18 second in…).

In the end, the judges decided on their final 3 picks to take home the prizes. In third, with super smooth style all day long, and the winner of a new Rome jacket was Jordan Soohy. Jeremy Anderson went home with second place, after making the crowd go nuts a few times a la Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. In first place, a man who has spent some time in the Seven Springs park, giving some hope to us shreds in our late 20’s, Danny Vogal. (Who also may be the oldest Premature Jibulation winner of all time.)

A huge thanks to Joel Rerko and his crew for putting on such a great event and all the hospitality Seven Springs has shown to Rome. We’ll see you guys next year.
