June is here and the Summer Camp of Terror is about to start at Windells—a bloodbath of shred with Artifact 1985s impaling LNP, Folsom boot laces strangling Bjorn, and the 390 rising out of Trillium Lake to decapitate campers with the edge of the highback.
Ron has been out at Mt. Hood getting everything set up for all of Rome's summer camp activities at the world famous Windell's Snowboard Camp. Here's a little update from Ron out in Oregon on what's been going on.
Some of the team is in town working on some various video interviews and catalog shoots for next year. LNP hopped a greyhound bus from Quebec City to travel down to the office. MFR took a break from working on her new house in Tofino to travel to the Rome headquarters. Eiki finished up his People part and made the stop at the office on his way to Iceland. Bjorn wrapped up a good session at Snowboarder Magazine's Superpark and headed into town, while Will Lavigne made the trek to Vt right before heading to a summer vacation in Costa Rica. The crew is working hard, and skating a bunch as well as catching up with one another on what they've been up to for the past season. Good times in Vermont.
Rome Am Johnny Lazz has been on a whirlwind tour lately, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. Lazz has had a huge year this season. He’s been traveling, filming and shooting for a few different feature stories due out next fall. In the last couple weeks he’s been holding it down in Nor-Cal, getting it done, and staying jacked up on Red Bull all night. He started his 2-week onslaught down in Mammoth for the PBRJ finals of the year. With the smoothness, he jibbed his way to a win and took home $2,500 cash for his efforts. Also there to shred at the event with some heavy rail jamming was Colorado’s Rome AM, Dylan Alito who took 5th in the contest and 500 bones to boot.
Flophouses are key to the life of snowboarding. When riders descend on a small mountain town, pack 8+ people into an apartment designed for 3, and ride park and pow everyday, the stories that emerge are what define the best parts of snowboarding. From Breck to Tahoe to Whistler to Killington to Mammoth.
After a big season in the Alps, it's still winter in some parts of France. Just this past weekend, Rome's French rep Mike Klimine and friends built a jump at Lautaret Pass for a late-season session. If only all of us could have fresh snow and winter into May.
Art entries from shop kids for the Rome SK (Shop Kid) Contest have been received from around the globe, and the judging has finally come to a close. A ton of good work was submitted by a lot of dedicated shop employees, making the decision a difficult one.
In the end, the Rome SDS is pleased to announce that Michigan native Mike Forester, hailing from Casualties Skate, Snow and Surf in Marquette, MI is the winner of the SK Contest for 2009-2010.
This past weekend marked the 8th annual Shakedown contest at Mont Saint-Sauveur in Quebec. Rome shreds Will Lavigne, MFR and Silvia Mittermueller all made sure to show up for the good times. This year also marked the first ever girls competition, which was rad (and about time).
YoBeat.com posted a Hump Day Interview with Johnnie Paxon that’s definitely worth a read…
