Teasing 2011

Friday, August 28th, 2009

With my factory trip about an hour from over, i thought i’d put together an image of some of the stuff i saw while here. That’s right folks, a super early, exclusive look at some of the 2011 graphics.

Or at least some real small parts of them. In the meantime, go treat yourself to some of the banging graphics that we have hitting your local SNOWBOARD shop right now!

Agent ‘85 – coming soon

Monday, August 24th, 2009

I just got to our board factory in Austria today, and one of the first things i saw was the tops and bases for the new Agent ‘85. You heard right kids – a reverse camber version of the tried and true Agent is on its way to stores, and should be available sometime in November. In the meantime, here’s a preview of the final graphics, complete with 1/1 paint splatters.

This is what the topsheet and base look like before they get made into a snowboard. Agent '85 155 (left) and 157 (right)

A little detail for you.

A little detail for you.

If this is the board you want this season, be sure to ask your local rome dealer about it – not many are being produced, so you have to act fast to get your hands on one.

I also got to see some boards getting their finishing touches done before getting shipped to your local shop.

Hammerschlagen

(aka Hammer Whacking)

So when we go to the board factory in Austria, one of our favorite pastimes is a game called Hammerschlagen.   Many places that you go at night will have a stump and a hammer and basically the objective is to pound your nail in first with the hammer…but there’s a catch.

In the North of Austria you play with the wedge end of a machinist hammer, where our factory is in the south the “hammer” is tougher to describe. First, it has a curved handle and instead of a traditional hammer head, the end is a cylinder and you try to whack the nail with the edge of the cylinder.

As Peter demonstrates above, you can also add spin tricks to your repertoire of how you whack the nail. Peter owns the shop “La Resistance” in Zell am See Austria.  It’s a sweet shop that you should check out if you are ever in the area.

So Rome has been known to celebrate the anniversary of 050601.   I decided that we needed to bring the fun of Hammerschlagen to the party.

I tasked Nate (“Number Two”) with finding a stump; which he did on one of his fishing expeditions.  Nate  found a section of a tree that was already laying about.

So I decided that we could do the Operations Department weekly meeting in Nate’s crew cab as we went to pick up the stump.

So we need to just acquire a hammer and game on.  That means you Colvin…

For more on Hammerschlagen, you can check out Wikipedia though there’s some seemingly revisionist history on there… (don’t watch the stuff on Youtube, most of the videos are of people who don’t understand the game)
