Could It Be?

This past winter while at the Rome EU office in Germany I was introduced to the Doner Kebab.

Lamb, Chicken and Pork shaved off a skewer, in a bun with lettuce, tomato, onion and some kind of tetziki sauce.
There are these late night stands and store fronts all over the place and after a long night I would always end up getting one.
Only drawback is waking up in the morning with a massive headache and kebab juice all over the front of my shirt
I’ve been saying that whoever starts that shit in college towns here in the States is going to make a killing. Last night we found a cart in downtown BTV that has’em and they are fuckin good!
Redneck Heaven: Hanksville Mud Bog
Monday, June 6th, 2011
After dealing with some crappy weather all week, this past Saturday finally cooperated. Mellow temps, smooth breeze and sun for days. On a whim, I decided to join Spit Jack guitar player TomT, bass player/Rome softgoods project manager George and his wife Betsy to hit up the Hanksville Mud Bog. I was promised beers, roasted pig, loose morals and a 300′ plus ditch filled with deep ass mud that participants would be driving their home made monster trucks through.
We weren’t let down.
This sign greeted us, and once we signed out life away and had our IDs checked by an 8 year old girl (no joke) we were let loose on the scene. NO PETS meant George’s dog Bud had to stay in the car. But Bud likes to party, and he was only mildly fazed.
After seeing some of the home-grown monster trucks, we knew this was no joke.
The Hanksville crew was very environmentally conscious, with multiple can drops all over the place. I wouldnt be surprised if they cleared a couple grand in returns when the event was over.
And now onto the action…These good old boys would pilot their chariots through the mud in hopes of reaching the end. Few made the full run un assisted. When a truck got stuck, the massive excavator that dug the trench in the first place would could give the stuck truck a little push from behind to make it out. Really nice of them, and a bit humiliating for the driver i’d imagine.
The boys playing in the mud wasnt the only attraction at this place. Here’s a collection of some of the other fascinating sights I saw that afternoon.
As if this day wasnt awesome enough, there was more. Remember how i said Bud had to stay in the car? Well Betsy went up to check on him, and when she opened up the door, Bud took off. Never one to miss a party, Bud charged down the field and out of Betsy’s sight. Next thing i hear is George over my shoulder “Hold shit, that’s my dog!” Yup…Bud decided to try out his four wheel drive and show up some of the boys. And god damn it if he didnt. Bud charged the mud pit, and crossed it. Barely. The mud was up to the poor bastards neck…he was a solid 2.5 feet deep. There are unfortunately no photos of his crossing, but after he made it to the other side, he looked pretty stoked.
It was an unreal ending to an equally unreal day. Hanksville, Dont Go Changing!
