The Smartest Guy I Know

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Rick and I moved out West at the same time and we would get together for holidays and the occasional shred session. Whether it was Crested Butte or Sun Valley, Rick would always have a bunch of growlers filled with his personal homebrew’s. He’s now living in NH and working as a Masterbrewer for Flying Goose Brewery. He comes up to ride Jay or Stowe quite a bit (Loon is his home mountain) and he still always has a few growlers in tow. Thanks for the brew Rick

I saw this video of him on Youtube.

Bottoms Up buddy!

Good Times, Shred Times

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

The sun was shining bright and there is still plenty of snow at the hill so George, Forester, Reid and I, bailed on work a little early today.  George got his sled, Josh called Jerry and we all met up at our local hill to get some post season runs in.

we started out pulling three and with one of us riding bitch. Turned out to be a greedy move and…..

we blew a belt.  George had us running tip top in three minutes so no sweat.

we started running two up and it worked fine.

Forester got the rope wrapped around his binding as george started to take off down the hill. Scared the shit outta him but he didnt get dragged to far, pretty funny for the rest of us.

all in all we got two runs of slushy goodness.

thanks for towing us George.

Great day.

More From The Bastards In The Boat

I just received an e-mail from Jan:

Here are some pics for you. The mountains closed but the beards haven’t come off and it sure as shit hasn’t stopped snowing.  We still have 16 ft at the steak on buff.  I was in Wyoming this weekend trying to shred some big lines but the weather didn’t cooperate we have been socked in for 5 days.  Luckily snowmobiles are pretty fun to ride in the pow, flat light or not.

Looks like its still going off.

Thanks for checking in Jan

Rome Ride Day – The Ender

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

A few days ago, the SDS held council to shred the ending of what has been a great season here in VT. While some parts of the world got caked with snow, some were left fairly dry. At Stowe, however, we had enough powder days to help ease the suckfest that is….SUMMER. Sun was high in the sky all day, we had enough brats and burgers to feed a small country and the beers tasted glorious. Here are a few pictures to recap incase you missed it:

Waldert workin' those burgers! Nice form buddy!

Whenever you write into Rome, this guy responds to you. This is a great picture that really captures what he's all about - look at that lurk hand and this purple ski-fogey running away from him!

In no way was lifty Dave bummed that he had to direct chairlift traffic instead of shred the sunshine. KIDDING - he was super bummed. Better luck next year Dave!

Here at Rome, we like to kick ass and take names. Also we like to ride REALLY REALLY fast when we get into a group. After all, you don't want to be last gettin' down to the bottom, or else you'll get pants'd. Look at these monsters!

The best part about photos is that whenever the image is captured - that's what happened. You can't even tell that Sean slipped off the rail immediately after I took this...so....I'll send it to Transworld as a SICK! tailpress to....front 360 out? Sure!

So I watched everyone straight air this jump, until KyleTern dropped this hammer. *This is a great time to explain that the way we choose interns around here is your method - so if you've ever applied at the SDS and didn't get the position...get back to practicin' your grassers, n00b!

Look at Justin gettin' so...wait a minute - he's racing a baby girl on ski's!?!?! He's clearly out of control and endangering lives...I tell you, the snowboarders are really to blame.

Turbocristal? What the hell is that? Sounds like something I want to stick a paperclip into!

Yep - that's Rome's product manager and bassist of legendary metal band Spit jack doin' a full on Pennsyltucky Wheelie with a full Budweiser in his hand. George later ripped some trees down with his bare hands, picked a fight with the Macho Man Randy Savage, and drove a black Camaro off a cliff.

This is Paddock, he makes all the pictures on your boards, boots and bindings. He's also a pretty good cook and all those years of shit talkin the Yankee's have left him with a bum knee. He pulled it all together, however, for this one glory shot.

So there it is - Cheers to a great season! Thanks to global warming for melting enough icebergs to give us more snow here in Vermont! Things to look forward to this summer: Babes, Bikini's, Beers and Brats. Oh and skateboarding, and...river floating! And fishing! And uh...convertibles! Cool. Keep checkin' back for more content - and more updates from THE SHRED REMAINS!

LAST NIGHT

I missed Rome Ride Day today…. for good reason, I went to Montreal last night to see the Pixies.

so FUCKING good!

Poppin’ ropes for days

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

I closed down the New York office for the week to head up to the VT headquarters to work and shred this week, since Stowe closes down at the end of the week. Its was pretty cloudy this morning, but the snow was nice and soft. I hooked up with Josh, Dumont, French-tern and our buddy Kyle that works up the street.

Kyle popped this pretty sweet rope ollie:

Not to be outdone, Dumont followed suit:

Unfortunately for Shawn, he didnt quite stomp it clean like kyle:

Better luck next time buddy!

*No trees, boards or people were hurt in the making of this post, only an ego.

Still Good

Forester, Anna, John and the Justin’s say they went riding this morning but we never caught up with them. Started off a bit hard at the top but it was all gravy by the third run.

Oh and Paddock came up to show off his brand spankin new Macbook Pro.

I guess Forester and I will just have to “CARRY ON”

Just kidding buddy, nice to have a smoking buddy in the office!

Catching up with the Ticket to Alaska winners…

Saturday, April 9th, 2011

Since my heli time kept getting bumped due to weather, my hang with the ticket to Alaska crew had been limited to just some beers at night.  Fortunately I was able to catch up with them the other day and hop in for some cat rides.

After the bluebird day, an Alaskan size snowstorm set in the following day with upwards of 20″ falling depending on your elevation.  The snow quality was really good, but the visibility was difficult above tree-line during the storm.

The crew getting ready to drop in...

George, their fearless leader...

Kyle, one of the winners from Cali

Our trusty steed...

Some of the funnest riding we did was on the last run of the day when we got below treeline… it was similar to the woods riding we do at Stowe (and you had some trees to use for terrain definition)…

Tyler from the Westbeach shop in Vancouver

A bunch of us were putting Notch ST's to the test with all the new snow...

Hiking out a little after a long day...

I shot some video; so hopefully we should have a quick edit soon from that… (most of the riding stuff I had was video instead of pictures)

Ride Til 11, Work Til 7

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

The lot was empty this morning until Ron showed up at about 7:55, Josh and Travis arrived minutes later. We were amped from the get go. The Sun was blasting, plenty of snow from the storm two nights before and we had a good crew.

Ron and his large helmut.

We kept adding onto our crew all morning until there were about ten of us.  Our laps eventually rolled from the trees into the park as the sun warmed up the tranny’s.

Ron was quick to point out that all the shots are either butt shots or guy in the sky photos, Im no Ansel Adams.

Mr Breakfast waited in the car.

Overall a super fun morning, we all have shit eating grins here in the office.
