Teasing 2011 Addictive Collection

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Captain Al came by the office yesterday to put the finishing touches on his new Addictive Collection graphic (his current 152 can be seen here). All I can tell you about it is that when the photo session was over, the studio stunk like hell, and I got some mystery juice on my hands that is causing a rash. This graphic will be worth the wait.

The radio in this country ain’t gonna do nothin’ for us, so instead, enjoy Rock and Roll Tuesday!!!

what i’ve been up to lately

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

hi y’all

Here is a lil bliptiblaptidoo of what ive been up to lately.

The summer has been pretty busy and really fun. Went to camp of champs, did an amazing Rome trip to Japan, Oakley shoot in argentina, worked a lot on my lil surf shack, went to a bunch of premiers for Absinthe’s film Neverland… all accross canada…

Last week I went up to Edmonton with my new “boytoy” and we drove all the way back to the island with stops in Nelson and Rossland for movie premiers. We also tried to hit as many skateparks as we could on the way so that was pretty sweet as well. Got to play some bowling, watched the new Trailer Park movie… Good trip!

Now Im heading to Whistler for a quick interview with Bridges and Annie (Boulanger) for Snowboarder Mag and then right back to the island to surf. I plan on having a corn on the cob/Redbull/vodka/fireworks/surf/drinking games/camping/skate party at my place for thanksgiving next weekend so that should be fun :)

Ill be heading to Salt lake city at the end of this month for a 32 team shoot and then I fly straight to mexico to meet up with my dad and 2 brothers for a surf reunion. Ill be back in Whistler as soon as the mountain opens. whoooo whooo!

So thats that! Life is good!

DSED

The creative cycle here at Rome comes and goes with the seasons. For several months straight, it’s a nonstop barrage of pixels, paper cuts and everything in between. But once that last file is sent off to the factory, there is some time to recover. Not much time, but even a few days seems like a month long vacation.

Now don’t think I’m complaining about this lack of deadlines right now – quite the opposite. Things are still busy as ever, just in a different way. Approving samples, shooting product for the new catalog, and researching the next line is all happening right now, so the term ‘down time’ is relative.

Regardless, it’s been a couple weeks since I made something new. In an effort to keep the creative wheels spinning, I’m starting this new personal project called Do Something EveryDay. I picked up a nice little 4″x6″ sketch book with a ton of pages in it, and that’s just what I’m doing with it – making something everyday. No themes, no critiques, no nothing really; just something new, everyday. I twitter’d one of the first entries the other day, but figured i’d make this somewhat official on here.

So that’s it. My own personal deadline. I’ll be sharing stuff on here from time to time. Feel free to love or hate on it. Here’s today’s entry: Hang Loose

Rock and Roll Tuesday : Guns N Roses !!!

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Not whatever crap band Axl is touring with now, I’m talking about the real GnR!!

Steven Adler’s drumming helped define the sound of the Appetite album. One of the best rock and roll drummers before he got heavily involved with drugs..

Axl is all his glory with high kicks! Too bad he became a head case.

Dream Land

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Since I got to Colorado, I’ve spent probably 90% of my time in this place.

DSC02974

The bowl in the back is 6 feet on the right and 8 , 9 feet on the left. There are two mini ramps under me (from where i took the photo, can’t see it ). 6 trempolines with foam pit and that weird snowboard jump on the right.( weird but still fun )

Back In The Day — Brushie and Salasnek

Monday, October 5th, 2009

If you were an East Coast snowboarder in the late 80s, a high school kid from northern Vermont set the standard for freestyle snowboarding–Jeff Brushie. By the time The Hard, The Hungry and The Homeless (starting at minute 2:00 of this clip) came out, Brushie was already a huge pro, he had transplated to Socal, he was part of the crew setting up Big Bear, CA as THE spot of the day, and he was triple-poking tricks like everyone else in 1992. Following Brushie’s segment, Mack Dawg gives us more of the goods from Salasnek.

Congrats Adam & Agatha…

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

As you may have seen on our twitter account a big crew of Rome employees is down in the beantown area tonight as former Rome employee Adam gets married tonight…Most shops will remember Adam as he was the point guy when a store pretty much needed anything from Rome.  He’s now on to bigger and better things slinging coffee but we certainly miss having him around the office (he even had a hat named after him).

He’s lucky enough to be marrying Agatha, the brains behind Burrito Mountain (which we blog about here).  You may also know from her years in-house at Eesa (that’s Adam as a “model” on the Eesa homepage).

Anyways, here’s to you guys…
